Tribeca Film Festival I Talk Panel Information

I am looking forward to this event and only hope I can situate myself close enough to get some good pictures although, I know that may or may not be possible.

Happy St. Patty's everyone!

Another busy day drawing to a close.  I'm blogging now to let visitors know that I have updated my Saatchi Online Gallery portfolio and now with the option to purchase print enlargements there.  Please visit.

The Saatchi link is to your above and to right elsewhere at each of the several blog spots I have here at Blogger.

I am waiting for my application to Amazon Kindle, the transfer of these blogs to Kindle to go through.  I submitted a few days ago but have not had the authorization go through yet.

Portrait of Cookie After the Italian Futurists

Why Special Effects?

A note about my special effects art photography.  I realize that it will not be every visitor's cup of tea.  It may or may not confuse some people who won't get the reason for distortion in portraits and blurring of reality.  I would answer the question of why by asking why not.

I know. I know it is not correct to answer a question with a question so, it might be better to say that, I like the mild trance effect that blur gives and the feminitiy of lace special effects particularly in portraits of women.

Sand, blur, haze, fuzz, halo and other adaptations on conventional photographics interest me simply because they are the alternative to conventional imaging and what is possible by way of standard, sharp, clear and realism based photography.

I like the idea that reality can be adapted in such a way as to give the appearance of a hybrid or mixed technique, photography as drawing (sand) or painting (blur) and the other metallics that commercial photography uses to a certain degree as well as Hollywood in their film posters etc.

There is also something to be said for a return to the mystery of what it is to be without words, what it is to remember dimly and to see the world for the first time.  Intimations of these qualities of seeing and remembering are implicit in the special effects techniques I apply to photography, especially perhaps the blur technique.

Waking from a dream, being born and waking into a new world of light and visibility, those qualities are suggested by blur at least, those are the things that come to mind when I think of what people who appreciate this style of photography enjoy even if it is only at the subconscious level or beneath the level of conscious appreciation.

The Armory Today

It was huge and hugely beautiful at the Armory Art Fair today.  Crowded with one after another beautiful paintings, photos, sculpture, people all ages, races, countries, languages, it was thrilling to be there.  If possible I will return tomorrow after going to the Moving Image event which is downtown from the Armory Show.  I was exhausted after walking my dog for about four miles earlier in the afternoon.  (He insisted due to the springlike weather.)  My legs were really tired but it was worth it to see and besides that, I am on assignment for Visual Overture Magazine so it was business that turned to pure pleasure.  I recommend readers of this blog go before it closes or go next year if need be but do go.

Art is Useless, Yes, It Is

Art is Useless like a Flower is Useless,” Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde‘s statement above is sadly true, Art is useless.  But the truth in this idea can be taken further, and from another perspective truth may also be seen in the following statement: “The jewel is in the lotus.”  In a further analysis the simple, fundamental truth may just be that, Art in itself is the flower.  Art is the flower of youth and the lotus blossom of old age.  So how can it truthfully be said that, “Art is useless?”  Art is the flower of antiquity and the gift of the modern world, thorny though it may be at times.

Art Fairs

If all goes well I will be attending three Art Fairs this week for Visual Overture Magazine.  It should be interesting and I'm hoping I can take pictures freely.  I'm waiting on word regarding that from the magazine and should have more information tomorrow.  I'm already writing the article I will write for Visual Overture in my head now, rather, I'd kind of like the physical part of being there to be over so I could get down to the analysis of the three events.

I have to admit I am interested in the photo opportunity that should exist so I really do want to be there except that's the work part of the equation, the writing is not.
